What is PFAS Australia?

PFAS Australia stands for per-and poly-fluoroalkyl substances. Basically, they are manufactured chemicals used in products that are designed to resist oil, stains, water and heat. There are over 3000 different chemicals that fall within this category. These chemicals are particularly prevalent in products like non-stick pans, food packaging and water-resistant clothing. It was once also frequently used in the manufacturing of Aqueous Film Forming Foams (AFFFs). This is the product used to extinguish fires (particularly gas fires). Now, the issue with PFAS is that it doesn’t break down naturally. It’s highly soluble, which means it doesn’t absorb into the soil and as a result can travel long distances—ending up in our water sources. The complete effects of PFAS Australia on humans can be varied and wide-reaching. While it can be harmful, Membrane Systems Australia are working hard to establish a complete PFAS remediation solution using our patented technology.

What is Membrane Systems Australia doing to treat PFAS?

In attempt to remediate PFAS Australia, MSA have partnered with another passionate research team to evolve our patented technology to target PFAS chemicals. The results have already been fantastic. Just recently, MSA completed what is believed to be Australia’s largest and most successful trial in PFAS remediation. Effectively, we now have the capabilities to remove more than 95% of both short and long chain PFAS precursors after just one pass through our filtration system. After removal of the chemicals, the next step is to hone in on the destruction of the actual contaminants, and the regeneration of the extracted medium to complete the recycling process. Currently, our PFAS Australia removal system can treat up to 2 million litres of contaminated ground water a day. Thus, we’re incredibly excited to see what can be achieved post out final stages of testing.

Membrane Systems Australia

The exclusive PFAS Australia remediation system we have designed comes with a number of benefits. It purifies water from other contaminants during the passing process, including trichloroethene (TCE), Pesticides, Herbicides and Hydrocarbons. The remaining filtrate water is potable grade, which means it can be used for production, farming and community use. Membrane Systems Australia team have been introducing proven water treatment systems to the Australian market for years. We’re continually researching and developing our methods to make our equipment easy to implement across all applications. Currently, we supply a number of different industries to accommodate the demand for clean water in farming, mining, food manufacturing, irrigation, and utilities for local communities. Our own team members have experienced the impact of living in draught-stricken environments. Thus, our solutions don’t just stem from knowledge—they stem from genuine passion to help.

Our collaborative efforts have already seen ground-breaking change. We can’t wait to see what impact our water treatment systems will have. To learn more about PFAS Australia and start looking at implementing your own systems in-house, contact us on today!
